"Last week we saw the movie "The Artist". It was a great movie and the wonderful lead actress, Berenice Bejo, reminded me so much of Kathy, the beautiful "Beach Bride" I painted over ten years ago. The actress looks so much like Kathy. She's pretty like Kathy but also she portrayed her mannerisms and personality so wonderfully. It was really a treat for me to see the movie and remember Kathy.

This is my first blog post for 2012 and I'm happy to announce that at the end of last August, 2011, life as a greiving widow took a dramatic turn for the better. I'm not alone any longer and sharing life now with my good friend is almost too good to be true. Sadness still visits me at times but it's not life threatening as it was those many, many months after Karl died. My friend and I both feel as though we've been given a gift.

The home Karl and I shared finally sold last month, January, 2012 and I've moved into the place (home) that is right for me now. There is a room with an easel, all set up for me to paint, and that's what I intend to do. There is the beginning of a painting on the easel now (a lady sniffing a bouquet of flowers) but I'm not sure if I will finish it or destroy it. I'll keep you posted."

"I was beginning to do better. I thought I was doing better, but a few days ago the holidays just hit me." - This was from a widow, contemplating her first Christmas alone.

"Memories are always there to hook us, to make the grief fresh again - birthdays, anniversaries, summer vacation -- any occasion of "the first time around" without our loved one. But the Christmas holidays, the Hanukkah observances, when the whole world seems poised for celebration, are among the most difficult times of year for survivors of loss. Each of us has a time-honored list of things "we always do" - go to services, hang the stockings, light the candles, share traditional foods. They are part of our identity and our joy in being alive in a world together - and now one of the key people with whom we shared that joy is gone. Is it any wonder we cringe from the thought of the holidays?

We will get through it, and probably better if we can talk about it with others who are feeling the same loss. Reaching out to others for whom this is also a difficult season (especially the lonely) will help, and will express the deeper meaning of the season."

"I want to share with you Martha Whitmore Hickman's meditation for today, November 11, from her book "Healing After Loss".

"Deeper and deeper we burrow into our grief. Desolations pile on one another. We wonder if we shall ever see anything on the horizon but this gloom and sadness.

Then one day, in some moment of quiet reflection, we find ourselves Thinking of Something Else! Is it possible?

We will move back and forth many times - back into the dark woods and forward again into light. After a while we will realize it is all one world, that feelings of joy and sadness enrich each other - as a person who has been mortally ill has a new appreciation for the beauty of starlight, the taste of orange juice, the caress of love.

Is it all right? Is it being disloyal to our lost loved one - to savor our life afresh? Are we in danger of forgetting? Not to Worry. We would as soon forget to breathe."

"These two paintings shipped to The Brown County Art Guild Gallery today. Two paintings delivered to that gallery last month have sold and these are replacements.

Painting is still non-existant for me so all the paintings delivered to the galleries now are from the archives. The Gallerie du Soleil here in Naples Florida recently took nine of my works from the archives and I am most honored to be represented by this fine gallery.

To all my dear friends who have called or e-mailed recently, checking on Nora, it's really good to report I'm feeling normal once again and can honestly say "I'm OK". I realize it's time for this blog to get back to the art and just let go of the grief. There is so much to be thankful for today and life is good. . . . certainly, daily walks on the Marco Island beach is one thing I really enjoy.

My precious granddaughter, Macy, posted this (below) on her facebook page and I think it is good. You might like it too if you're missing someone."

"This is the third painting I'm delivering to The Brown County Art Guild in Nashville, IN on August 28, 2011. I'll also be delivering the painting "Seven Cousins" to my good friends and the cousins grandparents, The Vaughts, that day also. I'm leaving on my motor trip to Indiana tomorrow morning.

There are two small homes I will see on Monday, August 29 in Plainfield, IN. I'm not convinced that buying another home is the right thing to do now but it can't hurt to look . . . see what options are available to me. One thing to consider is that summer here in Naples, FL is much nicer than Indiana. Also, it looks like it will be a long time before my home here in Naples sells and I really don't want two homes at the same time.

I would like to share that today was an especially good day for me and very much appreciated."

"It is one year ago, today, that my Beloved Karl died. And today is the day I begin painting again. . . . . here is today's effort. I found that signing the painting was hard for me to do and felt very awkward.

This small painting was painted using a brush and palette knife. I also used the grays that Barbara Flowers has on her palette, trying to tone down my colors. The grays are from Gamblin and they are: Portland Grey Light - Portland Grey Medium - Portland Grey Deep.

Sincere thanks to all of you who have accompanied me through the darkest year of my life and have given me hope so many times when I couldn't find it on my own. Saying "thank you" is not enough, I realize, but my thanks are genuine and heartfelt for you all."

"This painting is hanging in a guest bathroom that I intend to let go with my home / when and if it sells. The beautiful black gallery wall is gone and restored to it's original color. The house and garage are cleared of the things I am keeping except for clothes and personal items. One wall in the garage is lined with paintings and frames that I want to keep. The big Hughes easel will be gone by next week. Here is a link to the multiple listing and virtual tour of my home.

Before returning home from the recent trip, I was able to visit with all four of my sons and with many of my Indiana friends. While in Plainfield, Indiana, I looked at some condos with the thought of maybe buying one. I'm so unsure of what to do now that probably renting would be a better option for me. It's for certain that I won't do anything until "I have the I know that I know" from my Inner Presence.

Being away from here for a while was good but the loneliness and sadness still eat away at me. I talked to a counselor yesterday who says this will not continue and to expect good things to happen gradually that will ease this suffering. He says "Be kind to yourself during this time and if you can't paint, just don't do it. If there is no joy in painting now, why are you forcing yourself? You'll know when and if it's time. Seek, look into and try new things." . . . . Actually, nothing really seems to mean anything to me now.

Last Friday I canceled out of The Sheldon Fine Art Gallery here in Naples and brought home five paintings. They still have six of my paintings and I intend to have them back soon. I plan to take one or two paintings to the Brown County, IN gallery the first of September but I need to be free of painting obligations right now. It surprises me because I always thought that I would paint up to the end.

My Beloved Karl is gone eleven months and thirteen days today. Will after a year gone by be the time of healing? I'm so thankful for the years we had together and yet it's so hard, still, to go on without him."

The last three days spent here with good, wonderful friends has been a balm for my soul. Barbara is an artist, not of paint, but of the landscape using the most beautiful flowers. . . . . hundreds of flower beds, designed to perfection.

It is such a disappointment that I couldn't transfer the photos of the Koi Pond, Rose Gardens, all the Flower Beds and so many Potted Arrangements. Hopefully, I can figure out how to do that later.

I'm leaving in the morning but don't have a definite plan yet.

"Last Friday, July 1, I started out from my home in Naples, FL on a road trip. It was not planned but I just wanted to get away from the sadness and loneliness.

The IPad is with me, not the laptop, and I don't know how to insert photos or for that matter to even post normally. I would appreciate any and all help.

Friday, July 1, was good to spend some time with my son, Jasson, and his wife, Tish.
Saturday, July 2, I arrived in Cumming, GA for a 3 day visit with my son, John, and his family. I have been in awe of the beauty of this place.

Saturday, July 2, John and I drove up to Cleveland, TN to meet my dear niece, Cathy, (John's cousin) for a 3 hour visit at the AppleBee's there. I gave the painting of her dad and I that I painted a few years ago from an old photo. My brother and I were 12 and 10 years old when the photo was taken. John and I got back home at 6pm to a wonderful dinner Colleen had prepared for all of us. The best brisket, ever.

Tuesday, July 6, (today) I'm leaving for Flat Rock, NC to visit with good friend, Barbara.

"This painting was done from a photo of my granddaughter, Macy, when she was nine years old. She will be nineteen in August. Macy was asleep on our overstuffed living room sofa, not this brass bed. She did have bangs but her hair is brown and straight. The only thing true to the photo was my favorite orange afghan."

"After reading Bill Whalberg's blog a while ago, http://billspaintingmn.blogspot.com, I am inspired to write also. My Beloved Karl died August 13, 2010 and it's been ten and a half months. Concentrating is still hard and makes painting difficult. For several weeks now, I have been eliminating everything superfluous in this house and in my life. I'm obsessed with giving away, throwing away and have made umpteen trips to the Salvation Army drop-off. Last Friday, I listed the house for sale. It certainly isn't the best time to sell but it's time to be pro-active in getting through this season of grief. Now that I've decided to sell the house, I wonder if that was the reason I was (and still am) so overwhelmingly obsessed with the clearing out of so many things. My Inner Spirit assures me I am doing the right thing but the sadness persists. I have to force myself many times not to think of my Beloved Karl because the tears are still so close to the surface.

Writing down some things helps and one thing (along with many others) that came to mind was "I must fully accept, mentally and emotionally, that Karl cannot be with me and I will be at peace with that. Others have come through aching grief and sadness . . . . I will too."

It's shameful to me that I am still not functioning emotionally very well."

"It's good to be back at the easel today and I'm not concerned how the painting turned out. Of course I always want to do better but that's not the main concern for now.

I've had an attitude adjustment that has helped. Also, another thing learned that for me to function as a normal human being and not on the emotional roller coaster, I must get a good night's rest. . . .even if I have to take a 5mg. Ambien to do so sometime. I believe taking meds to cope with grieving can only be a band-aid and may even prolong the process.

Well, here this widow is in beautiful, sunny Naples, Florida and though I have not walked on the beach very much in years past, now I find it to be good therapy. Walking from 6pm to 7pm is a great time because it's still sunny and warm but not the hot noon day sun. There is always a wonderful breeze and I like to walk splashing in the water, just at the edge of the Gulf. I am Blessed."

"The art world still seems so far away for me but I am not without hope. If this continued grief is self pity (and I think it must be), my heart will surely accept the loss of my Beloved Karl soon so that a new life without him can begin. He died nine and a half months ago and though I have some days without tears, they still erupt too often.

Last week I read (listened to on the IPad) Joyce Carol Oates "A Widow's Story"/March, 2011. Her beloved husband, Ray, died in February, 2008. I'm not experiencing guilt but other than that our lives and emotions during the first year of being a widow seem to parallel, even the things we've done. The book was very depressing for me to listen to but toward the end she firmly states "The value of suffering itself, physical pain, emotional and psychological pain, is there any purpose to it? Then at the end she says, "Though I am writing this memoir to see what can be made of the phenomenon of grief in the most exactingly minute of ways, I am no longer convinced that there is any inherent value in grief. Or if there is, if wisdom springs from the experience of terrible loss, it's a wisdom one might do without." Oates words inspire me to get on with the new life God has for me. . . . . but what is it?"

"I blocked this in one afternoon, over a week ago and not sure if I will get back to it since the watermelon is long gone to the trash. My interest turned to fashion and design and below is my latest creation."

"A page (below) in the May issue of Town & Country magazine was my inspiration. I had this pink linen Lauren blouse that I liked but didn't like to wear because the linen fabric wrinkles so badly. It doesn't show in the photo but the fabric for the skirt is 100% cotton, quilted squares . . . and yes, I laundered the fabric before cutting out the pattern. For this leisure wear evening dress, the wrinkles won't matter to me. Do any of you watch the Food Channel? There's a cooking program called "Semi Homemade". That's what I'm calling my new dress, Semi Homemade."

"We are healed of a suffering only by experiencing it to the full. " / Marcel Proust

"There is no skirting around the suffering of grief. If we are to incorporate this event into our lives, we must walk through the center of our suffering with our eyes open.

We may be tempted to do otherwise - to save ourselves from this pain.

It doesn't work. What we try to avoid will stay, demanding it's due, the pain compounding like unpaid interest as we add to the burden of loss, the burden of trying to hold the pain at bay.

To be sure we can take "breathers" as we're able - and we need to, to keep our emotional health intact. It is a fine balancing act - when to seek diversion and when to let the full measure of loss declare itself.

We find this out by trial and error. When the pressure begins to build - a sense of being pushed by an unspoken agenda - it's time to release that pressure by being present to our sadness. Sometimes a friend can listen, without trying to gloss over our grief or burden us with well-meaning advice. A grief group is especially helpful - people who understand that we need to talk about it - again and again and again."

"Yesterday, I attended a lecture by Irma Gilgore at her museum of 19th century Italian art here in Naples, FL. It is a grand, elegant, contemporary museum and located in Eagle Creek of Naples . . . . just three short miles north of me here in Fiddler's Creek of Naples. I've lived here for over eight years now but only learned of this museum and Irma last fall after Karl's passing.

It was then that I talked with Irma by phone. ( Irma is a wonderful contemporary/abstract artist and her work is shown in New York City at Walter Wickiser Gallery). At the time, another artist had recently told me about Irma, the museum and that Irma was a recent widow too. Irma offered kind words of encouragement to me but those days were just too dark and bleak.

It was just last week, when I was so downhearted, called Irma and she invited me to the lecture that was scheduled for April 27. My artist friend, Nardena Sullivan, joined me and we both were simply astonished at the grandeur and the wonderful works of 19th century Italian art that we were privileged to view. A magnificent collection of sculpture, paintings, furnishings, etc. was almost more than the human eye could behold at once.

Maybe I've left the best for last. Irma Gilgore, herself, is just that "herself". She is very attractive, even in her seventies, and vivacious is an understatement for her. Mostly, she is smiling and putting forth a wonderful wit. You just can't help but love Irma, immediately. With her unique personality and vast knowledge of her art collection, the tour and lecture was made so memorable for us all. I am deeply grateful for yesterday afternoon. Many thanks to you, Irma.

"This painting "Testing The Water" was created during a very happy time and I'm happy to post it today.

A week ago last Sunday night (4/17), after a very good week-end attending Barbara Flowers' "Lunch & Learn" and an evening with my youngest brother and sister-in-law, I came into the house and immediately the uncontrollable, sobbing tears started. I had fought the tears and sadness for so long but this time I just gave into them and would ride it out, for however long it took. Well, it was Wednesday morning before I dried those tears of grief and was exhausted with the burden. At least the overwhelming sadness had lifted.

Just yesterday, while sitting in the car, eating an Oriental chicken salad from Applebee's, my eyes . . . . and heart were suddenly opened and I was so aware of how the trees and sunlight all around me were truly beautiful and aglow. My soul was filled with Joy. It doesn't sound like anything spellbinding but I know that I reached a second milestone, eight and a half months since Karl has passed. Remembering, the first was at four months."

" Sometimes we feel that we will be overcome. When we are tired and the future looks grim and mined with occasions for potential grief, we feel as though it will be too much for us. We won't be able to "take it" anymore.

But the weeks go by and we haven't crumbled yet. We've been sad, even despairing, continuing to see the future as bleak - but we haven't been overcome.

And after a while a sturdy confidence sets in. Look what we have been through! Look what we have survived. And if we've done it so far, why not tomorrow, next week and next month and on those occasions which are bound to come when we feel, once again, that we may not make it through?

But look! -- we have! And we can again."

I am strong. I am saddened, sometimes tired, discouraged. But I've made it so far. I will not be overcome.

"Yesterday, I found this painting in my studio closet, brought it out and framed it in one of the new black floater frames. It was painted two years ago and there is a lot of palette knife work on it. Maybe I'll hang it up, maybe I won't."

"On Saturday, April 16, 2011, I was privileged to attend Barbara Flowers "Lunch & Learn" at the Corse Gallery in Jacksonville, FL. Thanks to Barbara and another precious lady, Ellen Cleveland, the day was indeed very encouraging for me. I was assured, with certainty, that God is indeed directing my path and each day is precious . . . . . even though my Beloved Karl is no longer with me. All things truly are working together for my Highest Good.

Now, I am the happy, grateful owner of "Spring's Promise" and was able to bring the wet painting home to Naples. Barbara didn't know that I had already bought the painting before she finished and titled it. She couldn't have known how fitting and apt the title "Spring's Promise" was for me and my heart overflows with thankfulness.

All the photos were taken with my IPhone and turned out ok but as soon as the painting is dry enough, I will set it up for a professional photo and share it with you.

The notes, below, are just as I jotted them down while Barbara was painting and lecturing. There is no definite order but I hope you will find value in them."

"Spring's Surprise" by Barbara Flowers

All equipment is on wheels and she uses a laptop with monitor in her studio.

Spotlight is a photo lamp.

Paints with plastic gloves, half sheets Viva towels, Kleenex and uses "Lean" medium

"You can paint anywhere but it must be a dedicated area."

Barbara and Jerry sleep in the small guest bedroom because the master bedroom is her studio.

Her home studio is the master bedroom since it is large enough for her to step far back and view the painting on the easel as she paints. Uses a glass palette. Her studio has an expensive air filter system and a smaller fan blows fumes toward the filter. Color corrected lights installed above easel.

Barbara hates north light because it is boring and always the same. She loves the sunny, east light in her studio.

Barbara paints everyday- but maybe not on Sunday. She was a foreign language correspondent and still likes to aways be "dressed and ready to go" so she is always fully attired and groomed as she enters her studio to paint.

"What enthuses and inspires you is what you paint and make it your own. Turn off the internet - which means to stop copying others artwork."

"If you're painting what your teachers have told you - you're not painting your own painting."

Barbara painted in a realism manner before coming to this loose painting style.

"Pick out something quickly and just paint it.

"When painting florals, one painting germinates another painting. Listen to your voices."

"Look at your paintings in different light, in different rooms."Today, she is using gallery wrapped canvas (36"x36"x1.5") with a thin wash of burnt sienna and ultramarine blue.

Setup is a vase of red tulips, a bowl, pears and plum.

"Don't be a slave to the setup."

Says she is going to paint what she knows and sees.

Begins with a block-in sketch using thinned paint and a brush.

Uses a ruler to mark center of canvas

"No detailed drawing". "While working, you may have to adjust." "Angles rather than round"

"Always hold brush at the end."

"Some drips can occur while sketching.

She feels that pears are just wonderful to paint!

Break

While sketching in the tulips she says "Don't get hung up on anything now."

Mixes colors with turps for sketching and adds colors for variety.

Only uses oil paint - not acrylic.

"Every painting, you learn something new." "You can always change your mind."

"If you do something in one place, do it in two other places to make three." (She's speaking now of running tulips off the canvas)

"Oil painting, you can always go darker but not lighter."

"Painting is about massing in - not drawing."

"Lines takes you down a tight line."

She is using a scrubbing method with the brush as she masses in areas.

Barbara is very good at painting and narrating what she is doing at the same time. Am I ever fortunate to be here!

"Painting is about shape - not things so painting will be much more elegant."

"Think about shapes and connecting."

"Painting is about dividing up into unequal and abstract shapes."

She is scribbling and scrubbing with the brush to get rid of sketch lines.

Break

Using a large palette knife, Barbara is laying down dark red on the sketched tulips and says that she is still in the blocking in stage. "It's about layering."

"Putting your arm behind you while painting keeps you out of trouble."

I notice she flips the palette knife to use both sides and moves quickly from tulip to tulip. She says "The flow is working."

Doesn't usually mix colors in advance but is mixing some starter colors now. She calls this "Color Path mixing".

A lot of scraping the paint on the canvas.

"Starting the background color always takes a little while."

"Mix color with knife as you go to get color variations."

"The first little area is a starting point to determine how the painting will go."

"Make a decision now! Maybe change later."

"My paintings are a little bit about realism and a little bit not."

Barbara is applying the paint quite thick

Scraping (find the form - lose the form. find the form - lose the form)

Is using a lot of neutrals

"I'm the artist and it's my story to tell."

"Put your local color in and then the darks, lights, shadows, halftones, etc."

She's thinking complimentary colors

Wipes the palette knife often - brush too

"Making prints take away the value of the original painting."

"When a spot requires too much attention, it's best to leave it right now."

"There's something to be said about speed."

"Just get in there and get it done. Don't -------- around."

"There is no right or wrong place to start."

When someone asks Barbara if she is going to show us how to do drips, she replies

"A drip is just thinned down paint."

Barbara really gets excited about the painting as it progresses. She walks around, back of us all to view the work several times. It was great to hear her say . . . .

"Wow! That looks really good, you guys."

"We as artists, keep evolving."

She's creating a painting and not concerned with thick or thin texture.

She is using a J16 palette knife and also showed us a squared off small painting knife.

Has added the handle to the pitcher (vase).

"Never frame a painting for your house - frame for the painting."

Lava soap for keeping liner brushes hairs together.

"Tonight I'm at a Fairfield Inn in Orange Park, FL, fifteen minutes from The Corse Gallery in Jacksonville where I'll be attending Barbara Flowers' "Lunch & Learn" session all day tomorrow.

Last night I was so exhausted that I didn't share with you about the wonderful article to appear in The Naples Daily News paper about me along with photos of my paintings. A very good writer/author from the Naples Baptist Church submitted the article to our newspaper to appear in yesterday's edition, advertising for last night's big Art Show and sale. Other artists were written about too but I was featured in a very special way. . . . every artist's hopeful wish.

Well, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN . . . . a glitch happened and the article never went to print. First thought was "OH MY, WHY" and then the Spirit within accepting that God didn't want that article printed or it would have been. Who knows why but I do know that I will continue to listen and follow this Inner Voice. It has never let me down and always leads to true success with great peace and contentment. I believe there is something of significance I am being taught here and about life on this path. The word "ego" comes to mind.

"Tonight was the "An Evening of the Arts" fundraiser for the Baptist Church of Naples and I'm happy to report that two of my paintings sold. I entered ten paintings in the Show after all, not five. And, the most wonderful surprise . . . "Am I Blue" was awarded the "Best Of Show" ribbon. It was a delightful evening.

Tomorrow, Friday, I'm driving over to Jacksonville, Florida to attend Barbara Flowers "Lunch and Learn" all day event on Saturday at the Corse Gallery.

"One of the things so astonishing and costly about losing a loved one is that, while the sun continues to rise and set, newspapers continue to be delivered, traffic lights still change from red to green and back again, our whole life is turned around, turned upside down.

Is it any wonder we feel disoriented, confused? Yet the people we pass on the street are going about their business as though the earth has not opened and swallowed us up, dropped us into a world of insecurity and change.

It is, as Emily Dickinson says, "a new road" - for us as surely as for the one we have lost. It will take us time to learn to walk that road. "I skipped the grief support group last night and believe it was the right thing to do. The first thing to come to mind this morning was that it's time now for me to maybe do some volunteering or find a place that I can be of help to others again. I'm reminded of the scripture "To whom much is given, much is required". My dear Karl is no longer with me but he enriched my life so very much for a good number of years and I'm eager to share my blessings.

Then, later this morning I received an e-mail from friend and great artist, Joyce Norwood, asking me to participate with her and other artists in a large Art Show & Fundraiser for a Baptist church here in Naples. It will be Thursday, April 14, 2011 and I am so glad to have this opportunity to share some of my blessings.

Last Sunday I delivered the painting "Fresh Cut Roses" to The Sheldon Fine Art Gallery here in Naples. It was the first painting delivered to them since many months before Karl died and how I hope it sells. The good people at Sheldon Fine Art have been very patient with me through this season of grief."

"This was painted three months to the day that my beloved Karl died. It was a bitter-sweet time, knowing our time together was short.

Last night, I attended my second grief support group meeting and unlike last week it was not uplifting. Karl's death has left me with a raw, open. gaping wound and I do everything possible to help myself heal and yet there has been no guilt, anger or fear since he died as most of the group last night is dealing with. Karl and I both knew how precious our relationship was and we were mature enough that our twenty eight years together were never taken for granted or treating each other unkindly.

I'll be seventy-four years old next month and yet I'm feeling like a young school girl who has lost the first love of her life and thinks she will never recover. . . . I know that I will recover though because God says it is so."

"About six weeks ago I bought a rosebush at Home Depot because it had one red-orange rose blooming that I really liked. I brought it home, planted it in the front yard and it didn't die. It just didn't do anything until last Friday and I noticed these beautiful roses blooming. I was painting a self portrait that day but the next morning, Saturday, I went out early and cut all the roses for this bouquet. Blocking in was all I could accomplish yesterday morning because good friends from Freeport and Rockport, Illinois were coming to visit. This morning, when I walked into the studio, all the roses had opened up completely (spotlights are hard on fresh flowers) so I started painting away. It's signed and under a fan out in the garage now, drying. It's the best I could do and it feels good to be painting again.

Today, my beloved Karl is gone seven months."

We get through one terrible day. Then another. Eventually the first anguish of grief begins to fade. Maybe we think we have passed the worst of it. Then something will happen - the strains of a familiar song, the scent of flowers or perfume, the figure of a stranger across the street who holds his head in that familiar way - and we are overwhelmed with fresh grief.

Things will get better. But we are always open to new recall, new occasions that remind us of our loss. Our grief seems fresh again, but it, too, will pass.

AFFIRMATION

May I accept the rhythms of grieving. I have enough to worry about without scolding myself that I'm still so vulnerable."

I used all regular oil paints except for the Titanium White and that was an alkyd. I believe you can recognize me in the painting but it's not the best likeness I've ever achieved. It's cold here in Naples today and the scarf actually felt pretty good. . . . . those dangling earrings are new."

For everything there is a season . . . a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance . . . Ecclesiastes 3: 1-4

"If there is one thing grievers know, it is how changeable our moods can be. One moment we are relatively calm, in control, keeping our grief at bay. The next moment we are overwhelmed, our equilibrium shattered.

Anything can send us off - a fragrance, the words of a song, an article in the newspaper that reminds us of our loss, the first sign of spring - and our loved one not here to share it . Even minor holidays - like Valentine's Day - can send us reeling.

Other times we are carefree, relishing the moment - the beauty of snow, the warmth of fire, the comfort of hot cocoa, the presence of friends. And we wonder why we are so susceptible to such mood swings. We may even wonder about our sanity. When will my moods be more measured so I am not always in danger of being swept away, of falling through the trapdoor of despair?

Our lives have been shattered by loss. Of course it will take time for the pieces to come together in any coherent pattern."

Martha says . . . .

"One can scarcely imagine heavier images than those in this poem by Emily Dickinson. Yet the feeling is familiar to us - a heaviness in our step, in our whole body, a heaviness of mind and heart.

The Chill is accurate, too - a kind of pervasive lethargy. We may find it hard to think. We forget where we put something, what we had planned to do. (It's a good time for making lists.)

But we do outlive the Hour of Lead. The will of the body and spirit is for recovery - even for growth, for there is no recovery without growth."

"The painting is not somber as it appears in the photo above. Photography is another art that I need to learn more about.

I used a drop of clove oil in each of my alkyd oil paints on this painting to lengthen the drying time but now it's drying too slowly. Who knows when I will be able to put the painting in it's frame. I'm seriously considering going back to regular oil paint, using Res-n-gel to speed up drying time and keeping the alkyd Titanium white only. I need to give C.W. Mundy a call to see how he is handling the alkyds that dry too fast.

It's three weeks tomorrow that I got the first cold I've had in years and today I feel that it is finally gone. I only mention this because so many of you other artists are experiencing the same thing."

"It's a joy to be painting again and this one is for a special place in my home. I already have the ornate antique gold frame for it but must get those flowers completed today because they're wilting fast.

Tomorrow is Valentines Day and it is with Great Love that I remember Karl and my first Valentines Day together, twenty eight years ago. He was against the whole Valentines Day thing, saying "It's just a holiday for increasing merchants revenues". . . . . Karl was always thinking business. Well, when he learned how unhappy I would be if no valentine arrived, he came home from the office that day with beautiful roses and a Valentine card 36" high, 18" wide and the biggest boyish grin on his face. How I Loved that man!!

"This is an old painting I didn't feel was "worthy" but had taken it off of the stretcher bars and saved. Since, I'm in this clearing out mode I'm disposing of a lot of things including old paintings. There were several old painted canvases under the bed that I had forgotten were there and I threw away all but three of them. I'm glad that I kept this one for whatever reason because I had primed this canvas starting with the raw linen, using rabbit glue and oil primer. The support looks like it is a good 1/8" thick. I notice my signature is from a time when I was testing how I wanted to sign my paintings. Yesterday, I used Elmer's glue to affix the canvas to 1/2" gator board since I've been disappointed with the results lately using Miracle Muck. By the way this painting "On The Upper Porch" is #91.

"My little Macy didn't turn out as I envisioned but I'm happier with it than the one I painted so many years ago.

Can you get colds back to back. I believe that I have but am finally feeling better again. A beautiful day today to be out in the sun and it must help.

I've been painting one coat of alkyd oil house paint on each of the oil primed canvas boards that I purchased recently. All but two were purchased from ASW and two large ones on 1/2" gator board from New Traditions Art. Even New Traditions oil primed canvas isn't what I'm wanting. I learned about the alkyd house paint as a priming coat several years ago from Ted Goerschner's book "Oil Painting, The Workshop Experience" and it works very well. I just don't want to be doing all the extra priming in my old age.

I ordered a roll of Artfix L84C oil primed linen canvas from ASW today and when it arrives I will take it to a wonderful printer, G&H Printing, here in Naples and they will adhere the canvas to 1/2" black FormCore. They will use four 4'x8' sheets of the FormCore for my canvas and then cut the sizes I specify. We've done this before and it's great. The last time I still had to paint the alkyd house paint over the finished canvas boards but this time I believe the newer and heavier oil primed canvas will be just right. I'll be sure to let you know.

Today a great artist, Jane Naraine from Carmel, Indiana, called me and we got together at Starbucks for a wonderful gab fest about the art. She and her husband are here in Naples for the season and she is painting everyday. It brings back memories of Karl and me spending three or four months in Key Colony Beach, FL every year before buying a home there and making Florida our permanent residence. Our condo was right on the beach and I painted everyday too. Jane is not only a great painter, she is delightful, she is pretty and definitely a very good woman. "Here is the painting, hung high on the far end of my office wall. It was there also when my Beloved Karl occupied this office but recently I've changed the decor. It's necessary now that I create "my space". I must tell you though that it is a joy to be here in this room as well as the whole house that we shared and were so happy together. It's a good feeling to touch and handle the papers along with the instructional notes that he left for me, knowing his hands were on them.

Purposely, living in the present moment and listening to the inner voice all through the day is very rewarding and Goodness is coming to me in ways I could never have imagined. The other day I felt led to take a short walk in my neighborhood (I seldom do this) and while I was walking the mailman came along. We've only waved to each other in years past and one time he called out to me from his car while I was painting roses in the front yard. Well, he recognized me and pulled up to the curb to ask how Karl and I were doing. I know it was a good day for me and I certainly wasn't feeling down but when I had to tell him Karl had died, the tears began so I just waved good-by and started to walk away. The next thing that happened almost put me in shock. He parked the mail car, turned it off, got out, came onto the sidewalk and gave me a hug with tears in his eyes. Since the tears were rolling down my face by now I couldn't really say much but it didn't matter. The mailman had the perfect words for me at the perfect time, even giving me the perfect solution to something I had been pondering about and he couldn't have known.

The next day I put the red bar out on my mailbox and placed a one line note, thanking my mailman. When I got the mail later that day, here is the note I found. We can believe that we really don't know another person but the fact is that we are all in this together.

The days are still filled with loving thoughts of my Karl and I continue the best I know how to live this life without him. His presence always gave me strength and peace and It still does . . . . . I wish he could help me with these tears."

Karl died five months ago, today.

"This morning while having coffee by the fireplace (yes, a fireplace in Naples, Florida), I was actually enjoying viewing this painting. It's framed in a large ornate frame and I just recently hung it on the family room wall. When I painted "Roses & Melon" in 2005 I knew it wasn't good enough to market but saved it anyway. It amazes me how we appreciate something on any one day and then another day brings different things or ideas that we appreciate. When I use the word "appreciate", I mean it as "to go up in value" . . . . like we want our stocks and bonds to do, right!

The book that I'm reading now "The Presence Process" is coming to a close but I'm sure to be reading it again and again. Here is a sentence that I high-lighted this morning: We discover the capacity of Presence - a Presence we all share, everywhere , in each moment, that's able to bring us exactly what's required, whenever it's required. " I discovered this many years ago and am still experiencing this same miracle that is meant for us all today too."

"My dear . . . and GOOD friend, Louise, gave me two days of her time and energy so I could paint her portrait from life as I had asked. She is a beautiful lady and never complained once about posing under the hot light. After the first day's painting after Louise left the studio I did a Sargent and scraped down the whole canvas (20"x16"), leaving a ghost image of the day's work.

The second day, yesterday, New Year's Eve, when Louise arrive I was so enthused and excited about finishing her portrait sketch. Something told me to take a photo of her in her position without the overhead light on before getting started. Well, two hours later I had to bite my tongue, send my ego to the back of the room and tell my good friend that I had failed. Oh, my how I hated to declare that but Louise being the gracious lady that she is said "oh that's ok, Nora, but I'm afraid it's because of me". All you artists out there can chuckle about that because we all know that the problem, fault or whatever is NORA and not the beautiful sitter.

I sent Louise home to get ready for her New Year's Eve date, ate a tuna salad sandwich, took a nap and then remembered the photo in the camera. After printing I tacked the photo up on my easel and began painting. Louise is smiling in my photo but she sure isn't in my painting. I could get discouraged but am refusing to do that. Tomorrow is another day and I'm still invited to Louise's house for dinner this evening. Am I fortunate or what?"

"This painting is going to be in a fund raising gala for The Naples Museum Of Art to be held in April, 2011. Three hundred artists across the country are participating and I am honored to be one of them.

The "Friends Of Naples Art Museum" committee contacted me early last summer and I agreed. But it was shortly after my painting ceased and I devoted all my time to my beloved Karl. Now that I am led to paint again, I gave this my full attention and thankful because the painting is due back to the committee on or before January, 10, 2011. I believe I'll make it. The painting was varnished this morning (Liquin is my varnish) and now it just has to dry.

There is something else on my painting agenda. It seems to be building up the steam for activation and I hope to share it with you soon."

After 73 . . .and a half years I spent my first Christmas Eve alone, ever. It wasn't so bad. In fact is was a good time to reflect on all the Christmas Eves past in my Blessed life with gratitude and thanksgiving.

Just want to share with you how wonderful Christmas Day was for me because of a dear son, Jason and his beloved wife, Leticia. The day was filled with Blessings and Joy. I drove up to their house in Tampa on Christmas morning. When I arrived Jason was carving turkey but had driven over to Tarpon Springs earlier for Jett and he was there too. Also, a lot of Tish's family were there including son, Chad and his wife Michelle with their beautiful four year old Kennedie, Tish's parents, sister, nieces, and children. There was a houseful and it was wonderful! Tish and Jason must have cooked for days with all the great food (Mexican and American) put before us. There were hams, turkey, tamales, two different sweet potato dishes, green bean casserole, Jason's own cranberry sauce, real mashed potatoes with lots of good gravy and just so much more that I can't remember each one. The deserts were pies, cakes, flan, homemade cookies, candies and again much more. . . . oh, I forgot Tish's macaroni and cheese. I had two servings and brought a large serving home for my late night dinner. It is the best anyone ever ate. Did I mention we ate on Christmas decorated, English china and Tish had wrapped each place setting of silver with napkin and holiday trimmings. I for one really appreciate those things and it makes me happy. Thank you, Tish.

In the afternoon the two smallest children, Kennedie and Damian, stood on a little platform in front of the huge TV and did realistic downhill snow skiing and other games that gave awards. It was really fun to watch and then low and behold, Santa arrived. . . . . and a very good Santa she was. Tish had quietly gone upstairs and donned the very best Santa outfit of red velvet along with the big boots, gloves, hat, white curly beard and even the rimless glasses. She had round rosy cheeks too. I don't know how she did it but it sure looked like the real Santa to me.

After the agony of my beloved Karl dying only four and a half months ago, who could have foretold the Blessings and Peace I experienced this Christmas? My heart is full."

On Sunday morning, Dec. 12, 2010, I was taking my time getting out of bed, just laying there and enjoying the beautiful master bedroom suite. Out of nowhere the idea came to me that the master bath area too would look beautiful in that same deep carmel color. A long story short - by 10 o'clock that night I had the first coat of paint on those walls and put the second coat on early Monday morning. I had a gallon left over from painting the bedroom walls 7 years ago. So, I went back to Home Depot and got another gallon mixed with the same formula. The paint is Behr Premium Plus and I can highly recommend it.

The reason I'm sharing this with you is because that Sunday morning was the first time since Karl died (four months) that I actually felt happy and enthused about anything. The ideas just kept coming and I enjoyed painting the walls myself. It's surprising that interior design was the spark that put light back into my life again and not fine art. Before Karl was in my life I was working in interior design . . . . though we were called decorators in those days. Even as a little girl I can remember marking out my rooms with a stick in the dirt and using small crates and boxes for my furniture.

Well, as I said, the ideas just kept coming and now my home gallery wall is BLACK. Don't gag. It's beautiful! . . . . . at least I'm very happy with it. I was leaning toward a deep cranberry color but glancing at the tall black moire drapes in the dining room that puddle at the floor and the black border around the dining room rug I knew black would be the right choice. Getting good photos for this project is tough because of the spot lighting on the paintings. Trust me, it looks great.

On a closing note I would like to share with you that I'm continuing to let the Inner Voice lead me. An idea about painting keeps coming to mind and even things are falling into place quite naturally for the next chapter of my painting career to take place. I need to keep a lid on the ideas for now and let them build up steam on their own. If the work is meant to be, it will take place for sure. Tonight I am filled with such gratitude, God's Love and thankfulness."

"My son, Jett, had a slight setback last week-end but now is better than ever. A sonogram last Monday shows a strong pulse in his left foot and toes. What a blessing!

Carol Blackburn told me a while back that the agony of grief would not last forever and that one day I would experience an ah-ha moment . . . . . . I believe it came last week and I've definitely turned a corner in life. The horrible black cloud has lifted and there is light once again. I'm still telling Karl how much I love him several times a day and am thanking him over and over again for all he has given to me. Somehow I sense his essence is still with me. He's sure not replying to me but it just feels right and good. Last Friday night, a week ago, I was sitting in Karl's chair and getting very sleepy. I heard him say, in his kind and caring voice to me " Honey, you're falling asleep now . . . . you need to wake up and go to bed". Well, apparently, I was asleep and dreaming because when I opened my eyes and looked up to see him he wasn't there. It doesn't matter to me if I dreamed his presence and voice or he was really there. I felt such love and tenderness and hold it dear to my heart.

"This past week has not been the best for me but certainly not a terrible time either. Actually, some very good breakthroughs have happened to me.

Last Sunday my friend Ellen and I went to the Naples Museum of Art. Two of the three major exhibits really spoke to me and believe me, it was a wonderful feeling. Now, if that wasn't enough wonderment (if there is such a word) Ellen told me about a book that Myra Daniels, the woman who is responsible for the great art center that we have here in Naples, has authored a book and I could get it in the gift shop. I bought the book and as I was paying for it the lady told me Myra was in the Daniels Pavilion and knew she would be happy to autograph my copy.

Ellen and I rushed right over there (in the rain) and low and behold we opened the door to hear music, beautiful music. It was the children's (maybe 10 to 14 year olds) orchestra of strings and they were magnificent! The usher said we could wait until the end of the concert for Myra to sign my book. When she realized how happy we were to be there, the usher seated us in the front row and we were allowed to enjoy two more works by those talented young people. Afterwards, Myra Daniels most graciously signed my book. She is a widow also.

The book, pictured below, was a perfect read for me and I finished it in two days. I learned that this little lady went to Indiana State University and also started her advertising career in Terre Haute, Indiana. I grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana so I was familiar with all the places and people she mentions. But, what I really gleaned from her book was her knowing and trusting her Inner Voice to lead her on her path, right from the beginning because of a wise grandmother. I am encouraged anew and most grateful to this woman.

I don't want to end the blog today without telling you that several days ago I painted over an old canvas (24"x48"x2") the color lavender in acrylic paint. Not everyday but most days I have put on a few paint swipes in different colors with the brush and also the knife. It is not pretty but I can at least say I'm painting."

"Karl and I met 28 years ago tonight and it was a Friday, the same as today. December 3, 1982 is a most important and memorable date to me, even more than our wedding anniversary. I was so thankful for the GOOD man God brought into my life. I had prayed for many months before asking God for this Good man. Stars and rockets didn't explode, I was 45 and Karl was 51, but it was like an invisible magnet that just drew us to one another. If there are soul mates, Karl and I were that and happy for all the years we had together.

Karl ordered the huge bouquet of 25 roses, that I painted above, for me last year for our 25th wedding anniversary, October 13, 2009. It was a wonderful surprise! Because it was so hard for Karl to even speak a sentence then, I had no idea he had managed to call a local florist and to let them know his wishes. Our good friends, Web and Troy Gaskin brought champagne over to celebrate with us and Karl even took a sip or two. He had not been able to drink since July, 2002 when he'd had heart surgery.

Tonight, it feels good to think and write about my beloved. I am so filled with gratitude and thankfulness.

Today, I talked with an amazing artist, Irma Gilgore. What a feisty lady she is. She paints her emotions abstractly and is a successful artist, showing her work in the New York gallery of Walter Wickiser. Irma lost her dear husband in February of this year and she has finally gotten through the early agony of loss. Her days are filled with painting, giving lectures, opening her wonderful home gallery by appointment (she lives in a gated community also), etc. She's busy with the Naples Opera company here and other organizations. Our paths crossed because I joined "Portrait & Figure Painting Society of SW FL" this morning. I forgot to tell you that she is my age and lives just 3 miles up the road from me. She says that she is managing so well and is not fragile because she believes the spirit of her dear husband is still always with her."

"My son, Jett, is out of the hospital and back home in his Tarpon Springs apartment today. My hope and prayer is that he will do well living on his own with the help of his friends and neighbors. It's a complicated situation that I can't share but I want to thank everyone again for their prayers and concern for Jett. He was a breath away from losing his left foot and we're giving thanks galore this evening that he was able to come back home with both feet. Hopefully, he will take good care of himself and all future reports will be good.

Do you suppose that this blog will ever get back to just the arts? I sure hope that it does but while still crying buckets of tears almost daily I've been knitting too. The yellow scarf below was knitted from the beautiful cotton yarn that Christy Verity sent to me. It's 72 inches long and 4 inches wide but I still need to put the fringe on it.

"Tomorrow will be two weeks since Jett was admitted into hospital. He is slowly healing from the two surgeries and has been walking again now for six days. I'm a little concerned that Jett is still experiencing sharp pains and regularly taking pain meds. . . . every 5 hours now instead of 4. He still has the cyst but his INR blood count is slowly inching up as wanted. It was 1.9 today. At least 2 but not higher than 3 is the number the doctor is trying to achieve and maintain with the Cumadin. Some good news today was that the doctor told him that he probably will only have to stay on the Cumadin for 3 months after he leaves the hospital. Jett and I talk on the phone everyday at lunch time and then again in the evening. He gets disappointed because healing is taking so long but overall, his spirits are good. Sure hope he isn't putting on an act for his mother.

It's ironic that another man the same age as Jett, 48, has been in the room next to his for the last week. That man had already lost one foot just above the ankle and the doctors are trying to save his other one but the prognosis is not good. He has Renaud's disease too and had neglected his health like Jett but was too late in getting medical help for himself. Is this just a coincidence these two men cross paths with one another at this time. The man is alone in life like Jett but is a widower while Jett is divorced."

"It's hard to believe my good fortune yesterday to spend Thanksgiving, Italian style, with my friend, Louise Toresco and some of her family. We arrived at her son, Ben and his wife, Valerie Toresco's beautiful home on Marco Island at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Hors d'oeuvres were served as we gathered together on the large lanai and visited . . . .there were 10 of us. At 3 o'clock what I thought was dinner was only the first seated course. We all ate heartily of Italian fare . . . I've started to list all the dishes we were served but there were just too many to count.

I should have started this with how beautiful Valerie's dinner table was set. After the first course ended around 4:30pm and a quick pick up of dirty dishes, we visited some more on the lanai. A Skype call to more of the Toresco family in New Jersey was a joy to behold.

We were seated again at 7 o'clock pm for the main course of turkey and a zillion side dishes, each one a delicious work of art on it's own. By 9 o'clock pm we are all smiling, well fed and happy. But that wasn't the end by any means. Dessert was fine Italian pastries, apple pie, key lime pie, two ice creams, Louise's homemade cookies and on and on. I haven't mentioned the drinks but it was anything you could possibly want including espresso with dessert.

I am most thankful to all the Torescos' for including me with open arms and the warm hospitality each one extended to me."

Jett

The doctor continues to keep Jett in the hospital but the INR is gradually coming up. It was 1.78 today. Now, he has developed a good size cyst at the beginning of the first surgery incision that was a week ago last Tuesday. The doctor said this sometimes happens and it may dissolve on it's own or he may have to use a needle to extract the fluid. The good thing is that it is fluid and not blood.

"Today's good news about my son, Jett, is the doctor said he won't lose his left foot. . .. he said Jett got to the hospital in time for help. The other news is that Jett will stay in the hospital for an undetermined amount of days and not be home for Thanksgiving as he wanted. I know he's in the best place he can be right now and hope my words this afternoon gave him some encouragement. The INR blood test count dropped since yesterday and it is still not up to the 2 - 3 count range that is required.

Today, I am giving thanks to God for Jett's progress, all of my children and their families, you wonderful, caring friends and having the Faith in God that all will be OK.

"First, let me say a huge thank you to everyone for lifting up my son, Jett, in prayer. Yesterday, Sunday, I was able to go to the hospital in Tarpon Springs to be with him all afternoon and evening. He was in a lot of pain but kept putting off getting more meds for relief . . . I told him not to play macho man in front of his mother. He didn't take the meds though until after I left and the nurse told him that he cannot let the pain get ahead of him like that and to keep taking the pain medication every 4 hours for a while longer.

His left leg and foot are dark, dark gray but thankfully, more feeling is coming back in his foot today. He was able to finally get out of bed yesterday and walk with a walker so we took a couple of short walks in the hall together. He's hoping he can use a cane tomorrow instead of the walker. His INR blood tests results are still too low and he must stay in the hospital until the Cumadin regimen he's on works. His risk of a blood clot is still very high. I am so thankful the surgeon could help Jett . . . . especially since he had waited much too long before getting help.

I often refer to my four sons as the boys, when in fact they are all middle aged men now. I'm praying that Jett will make better choices for his life and he will understand just how merciful God has been to him. My faith is ever greater because of all your prayers and the Goodness of God. I am most thankful and grateful."

"This painting of my son, Jett, was, obviously, painted from a photo I took on the boat back in 1989 and is very amateurish. It was my 15th painting. I used a lot of Alizarin Crimson in those early days of painting and this painting of Jett shows just how fugitive that color is. There was life in those shadows in the beginning but within a year, the Alizarin was gone. It was a good lesson to learn early on and then I substituted Rose Madder for Alizarin for many years. The last 5 years I've used Quinacridone Magenta in place of Alizarin Crimson and have been very happy with it.

The main reason for showing you this painting is to ask for your prayers for Jett. Jett has Renaud's disease and was admitted into a Tarpon Springs hospital this past Monday. He had fallen earlier and couldn't recover from his injuries. He had surgery on Tuesday to open a 70% blockage in the groin area and then surgery again on Wednesday to open two more blockages (60% and 90%) in his left leg. There is at least a pulse again in his left toes but no feeling in the bottom of his foot. The doctor told him this morning that he may never get that back.

The biggest problem now is getting and keeping his blood flowing thin. His PPT count is much too low and Cumadin plus Heparin are being administered. The risk of a blood clot is very high and he is not permitted to get out of the hospital bed. Jett is 48 years old. I will be with him tomorrow."

"Yesterday marked three months since Karl is gone.

"One For Lunch" pretty much says it all for today but this work was painted in 1991 when life was wonderful. The crossword puzzle is something I've stopped doing since Karl died. They make me sad now and I guess it's because we enjoyed doing them together for so many years. The last three years Karl was doing the Sudoku number puzzle too but I never started."

New Curtains

" I woke up this morning seeing the new curtains, plaid drapery with Battenberg lace insets, at the windows and the sun shining.

These curtains were my big project undertaken last week and warranted me buying a new Viking sewing machine. Let me tell you - sewing is not at all like the old days. Today it is a breeze to get the work done with a digital sewing machine. Maybe, I'll sew something else now. When I was a young mother I routinely designed and made clothes for myself and young sons.

This curtain sewing project has made me realize anew that my years of sewing is what gives the sense of measurement that comes easy in painting for me."

. . . . . Oh, I forgot to tell you that hanging curtains and drapes is as hard as it ever was.

It amazes me how many of my friends and family remark about what a Great time I had on my trip and how strong I am. They don't have a clue!

Yes, it is very slowly getting better but not easy to just function every day. The tears easily erupt at any time. I still feel like I'm just marking time and going through the motions of life. My intellect knows I must accept the fact that Karl is gone and will never return. . . . but my heart still pines and yearns for my Beloved. "

It's Sunday evening and I believe that I have all the accounts in order . . . . . finally! Now I know why Karl spent so many hours here at this desk. And a five week backlog of mail was tough to tackle too. Art sales have certainly been down this year but there are still art records to keep up to date.

I say that I'm playing house because everyday since returning home from The Journey, I have been moving and rearranging paintings and furniture in my home. I'm changing many accessories in the house and just giving my home an uplift. I bought a new Viking Sapphire 835 sewing machine yesterday and will be making new drapes for the master bedroom this coming week. Wow! For all of you who sew but haven't looked at the new sewing machines for years, what a surprise. It's digital this and digital that. I'm looking forward to the project.

Before being an artist, I was an interior designer and loved design work. So, it's no surprise to me that doing these things now really help stave off the tears and sadness.

"The Journey is over, a few tears I wasn't prepared for but I'm home and in a GOOD place.

The final odometer reading is 5460 miles. The car is unpacked but I'll wait until tomorrow to put everything away where it belongs. My good neighbors who collected the mail for me these last five weeks had three bags full and I need to give that my attention first thing in the morning.

I wish I could say what I plan to do now and in the near future but it's beyond me . . . . I really don't know."
